Italian Mill Home

Where: Basaldella, Udine, Italy
When: 2022
Status: Proposed
Typology: Residential & Studio
In the mountains of Udine, an old water mill and warehouse stood worn and weathered. Our client saw more than ruins. He saw potential to foster a place to live, to create, and to reconnect with the rhythm of the countryside.

We began by removing the excess, carefully peeling back the layers until only the essential bones remained. What followed was a proposal to restore, not replace. Stone, timber, and light reframe the space into something rustic, warm, and open to hosting and rest.

Connected to the home, the old warehouse becomes a studio and a place for art, for design, and for quiet focus. It is a space shaped by the past but made for a slower, fuller life in the present
