Across the alpine territories of Italy, the tradition of transhumance—seasonal movement of herders and livestock—is slowly fading. This project is a small response to a much larger loss. A shelter designed to support a way of life, and to help carry it forward.
We built off-site to protect the land, anchoring the structure with metal pins that leave no deep trace. Its form is compact and geometric, using sustainable and locally sourced materials. Openings are minimal, but carefully placed. The interior is flexible, with partitions that adjust as needed.
This is not a monument. It’s a shelter born of necessity, shaped by tradition, and made to move with the people it serves.
