Built on a compact 5 x 20-meter lot within a dense Quezon City subdivision, this project explores how a narrow urban site can still feel open, bright, and connected to nature. The design maximizes every square meter while creating a home that feels airy, calm, and welcoming.
At the center of the house is a large multi-level atrium organized around a sculptural staircase that connects three floors through a series of half-levels. Serving as the heart of the home, the atrium brings natural light and ventilation deep into the interiors while creating visual connections between spaces.
To soften the dense urban surroundings, the house incorporates abundant planting throughout the property. Indoor trees, hanging greenery, planted terraces, and garden pockets help create a cooler microclimate while enhancing the feeling of openness and comfort. The result is a home that feels remarkably maaliwalas despite its compact footprint.
Natural materials such as wood and local stone were used to create warmth, texture, and a welcoming atmosphere. The palette balances contemporary architecture with a softer tropical character suited to the local climate.
The program includes a one-car garage, living room, kitchen, laundry area, service bedroom with toilet & bath, master bedroom, two additional bedrooms, family room, office, shared toilet & bath, and a rooftop terrace with an outdoor kitchen and a small pool.
Through passive cooling strategies, layered greenery, and strong vertical connections, the project transforms a small urban lot into a breathable and light-filled family home.
