Intramuros Living Heritage

Where: Intramuros, Manila City, Philippines
When: 2022
Status: Thesis Design
Typology: Civic & Housing
Intramuros holds so much of our shared past. From its pre-colonial roots to its colonial bones, it has shaped the story of our cities. But today, the walled city feels disconnected—from Manila, and even from itself.

This project asked how design can bring Intramuros back into everyday life. We proposed spaces that serve real needs: socialized housing, public commons, and walkable connections. We studied the grain of the city, traced the edges of its ruins, and let its textures and rhythms guide the form.

We believe that heritage must serve the present. Architecture lives when people live in it, love it, and find meaning in its spaces. That was always the goal here—to help Intramuros feel like home again, especially for those who never stopped loving this place.
